This black bean dip comes together in minutes (the key to any good appetizer, in my opinion) and tastes absolutely amazing. You can prep it in advance and pull it out whenever you need a delicious easy appetizer!

black bean dip ingredients

I love to make this dip for taco nights or quesadilla nights (my girls are big quesadilla lovers) as it’s the perfect appetizer. It’s also great for large groups because you can make it in minutes, prep it in advance, store in the fridge and whip out when guests arrive! It’s good cold or room temperature.

Black Bean Dip Ingredients

BLACK BEANS: The star of the show, of course! I just use regular canned black beans, just be sure to rinse and drain them.

GARLIC: Don’t skip the garlic! It adds so much flavor!

JALAPENOS: I typically use 1 jalapeno, de-seeded but leave the seeds in or toss in a second for a spicier black bean dip.

TOMATO PASTE: This helps give the black bean dip some depth of flavor and richness. Find it near canned tomatoes.

LIME JUICE: Fresh lime juice is ideal if you have it, but if not, bottled will certainly do the trick!

ONION: You can really use any onion variety you have on hand. Yellow onion is what I use, but a red onion would work well too.

SEASONINGS: I use a blend of salt, cumin and chili powder.

WATER: Depending on your blender or food processor, you might need to add a few tablespoons of water to help blend your dip.

CILANTRO: Add in a large bunch (about 1/3 cup) of cilantro leaves and save some back for garnish!

I also like to sprinkle on some cotija cheese with extra cilantro but you don’t have to have a specific garnish for this dip. It’s good on its own!

What to serve with Black Bean Dip:

You could truly serve it with almost anything, but here are some suggestions! I also love this spread on tacos or tortillas for wraps!

Tortilla Chips
Pita Wedges
Pita Chips
Pretzels
Veggie Sticks (bell pepper, celery, carrots)
