Olive Dip with Cream Cheese

If you are an olive lover, then you’re in for a treat. While you can certainly serve up a little bowl of olives on their own as an easy snack, sometimes you want to up the ante, you know what I mean? Hence… OLIVE DIP! It’s absolutely fantastic, creamy from cream cheese and a combination of mayo and sour cream.

Let’s take a quick glance at the olive dip ingredients so you know what to have on hand. I love that they are all simple ingredients you might even have on hand already! No hard-to-find ingredients here.

Olive Dip Recipe Notes

OLIVES: I love green olives so that’s what I used, specifically Manzanilla olives (green olives sold pitted and stuffed with pimento) but this recipe is also delicious with black olives, Kalamata olives, thasos olives, and arbequina olives!

CREAM CHEESE: You can use full fat cream cheese or low fat. Up to you but the cream cheese gives this dip that creamy texture!

MAYO & SOUR CREAM: The addition of mayonnaise and sour cream to the cream cheese gives this dip the perfect creamy texture, but if you want to make it healthier you can substitute one or both for plain Greek yogurt!

CHEDDAR CHEESE: I highly suggest you grate your own cheddar cheese, it’s a creamier texture and richer taste. I love sharp cheddar cheese, but you could substitute in mozzarella, parmesan, or pepper jack!

GARLIC: Add more or less garlic to taste, I find 1 garlic clove to be the perfect amount. If you want to substitute in garlic powder, then 1 clove of fresh equals 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder.

ITALIAN SEASONING: This gives the dip a richness that I love! You can substitute in Herbs de Provence, Cajun Seasoning, or your own blend of dried herbs.

OLIVE BRINE: Olive brine is simply the liquid in your jar of olives. Just pour some right into the dip. It infuses the dip with a salty olive flavor (hence why you won’t need additional salt).

MAKE IT SPICY: If you love a spicy dip, swap the cheddar cheese for pepper jack cheese, add red pepper flakes and 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper!

RECIPE FUN FACT: Did you know olives are actually fruits, not vegetables? And did you know that there are over 2,000 varieties of olives? About 150 of them are grown for table olives and use in olive oils. Read about the history of olives here.

Can you Serve Olive Dip Hot?

Absolutely! This green olive dip is delicious baked hot or served cold right from the refrigerator. If you want to serve it as a hot olive dip, then scoop it into an oven-safe baking dish and bake at 375 degrees F for about 15 to 20 minutes (or until bubbly and hot). Tip: Add a little extra cheese on top before baking!

How Long Will Olive Dip Last?

This cream cheese olive dip will last up to 3 days in the refrigerator, in an airtight container. That is, if it lasts that long. 😉
