How to Make Alabama Fire Crackers
These are a great snack to make and use simple ingredients.
- Add the seasonings and vegetable oil to a large plastic bag (like a gallon or 2-gallon ziplock back).
- Open each sleeve of saltines. Add them to the bag. Let the crackers soak in the seasoned oil for ideally at least 1 hour, tossing the bag occasionally to ensure the crackers are evenly coated.
- Preheat your oven to 225°F.
- Spread the crackers out in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until they’re crispy and golden brown.
- Remove them from the oven and allow to cool.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Enjoy!

See above a bit of what looks like a big mess but it’s all in the plastic bag, so fear not! Haha!

Recipe Tips
- For extra flavor, you can adjust the blend of seasonings and add in others such as cayenne pepper, Italian seasoning, or dried herbs like thyme or oregano.
- Add grated parmesan cheese if you want a cheesy version!
- Feel free to adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to suit your spice preference. You can also omit them entirely if you prefer a milder flavor.
- These spicy crackers are best enjoyed within a few days of baking for optimal crispiness.
- If you have the time, let the saltine crackers “marinate” in the plastic bag for a couple hours (or even overnight).
- If you want to swap in extra virgin olive oil for the vegetable or canola oil, go for it! Both work well in this recipe.
- Instead of saltine crackers, you could use oyster crackers, club crackers or Ritz crackers too. I’ve even seen mini saltine and can’t wait to try it with those too!
- TIP: Look for the ranch dressing mix near salad dressings in the grocery store. You’ll need 2 for this recipe.
Enjoy these spicy fire crackers on your own or add them to a charcuterie board or other appetizer spread! They’re the perfect party snack for game day especially! You could even serve them with your favorite dips like garlic dip, onion dip or jalapeno cream cheese dip!

Alabama Fire Crackers
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 2 packets Ranch Seasoning & Dressing Mix
- 3 tbsp red pepper flakes
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 box saltine crackers (4 sleeves of crackers)
Instructions
- In a large plastic bag (like a gallon size ziplock bag), add vegetable oil, ranch seasoning packets, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, onion powder and paprika.
- Seal the bag well and use your hands to mix together the oil and seasonings until combined.
- Open the bag and add all the saltines (4 sleeves-worth) to the plastic bag.
- Reseal the bag and carefully toss it back and forth to allow the oil and seasonings to pour over each cracker.
- Allow the saltines to sit in the bag for at least an hour (or overnight!) and absorb the mixture.
- Preheat the oven to 250 ℉ and line a baking sheet with the saltine crackers in a single layer. You don't want any overlapping.
- Bake for 20 minutes. Allow the crackers to cool to room temperature and store in an airtight container. Enjoy!
